UPDATE: Worship Team Director is no longer available in the app store
Sadly Worship Team Director is no longer available, and hasn’t been actively developed for a long time. It is not clear if the developers (Gateway Church) are going to bring it back, so we are now recommending the app ‘Soundboard Studio Lite’ to play Pads in iOS.
Soundboard Studio Lite is an iOS app that lets you trigger audio files. The cool feature about this app is the crossfade functionality. When you switch from one pad to another, you get a nice crossfade. With the Pads, this helps create a seamless transition.
Don’t know about Pads?
Pads are a music bed that will enhance your worship services and allow you to facilitate awesome transitions. They sound like this:
Any app for Android
Hi, try Poweramp for Android
Thanks Martin!
Are you working on an ios8 update? Let us know by posting something on your webpage.
Hi there! I just bought all your pads; I think this is an amazing idea that I can introduce to our worship team! I did have a quick question.
I downloaded all the music/pads to my iPhone 5, enabled, the “Fade Off/On” button, and when UNplugged from our audio console, the crossfade option works perfectly.
However, when it is plugged IN, the crossfade doesn’t seem to work (pressing the next pad “jumps” the sound from one key to the next.)
Also, the STOP button (when plugged IN) makes the sound/pad abruptly stop without a fadeout. Is there an additional setting I need to enable or check to get this working? I tried it on my iPad as well with the same results.
We use a Yamaha LS9-32. My iPhone is plugged from an 1/8″ cable to a 1/4″ converter into our DI box (which is linked to our audio console).
Hope this reaches you! Thanks for introducing this to the world of music and worship!

One possible solution that I may be able to institute is to turn the reverb up very high on the bump/fader that’s on the audio console. That seems to allow the sound (through the verb) “bleed” over to the next pad/key without the quick silence in between.
If there’s another solution though, that’d be great! 🙂

Hi Alex,
In addition to the reverb, turn on a long-ish delay with a good level of repeats. That will help give you a crossfade. It doesn’t have to be very high in the mix.
Hi Alex – I think what you’re experiencing using the stock Music app on iOS is that the crossfade only works when one song finishes and then moves to another song. If you skip to another song before the one you’re on finishes, it’s a hard cut. It’s kind of a dumb thing that Apple does that – at least they shouldn’t call it ‘Crossfade’ – the name is misleading.
Hey Brian, I am looking to use pads in our service.I use an iPad.What I would like to do is control them with a Bluetooth foot pedal. Is there an app to make that possible?
Brian (and Alex_
I was experiencing the same problem as Alex. I am running Pads though the Worship Team Director App on my iPhone. When I switch to a pad in a different key the crossfade feature in the Worship Team Director app (not iTunes, or the stock iOS music app) works fine. However, when I have it plugged in to our mixing board at church, or even my apple earbuds, the crossfade disappears and I am left with an abrupt transition. Additionally, when I stop the track, it drops off abruptly.
I went into the settings, kept the Fade on and turned off the ENH. Apparently this makes only the right /track side fade out gradually and the Left will end abruptly. So far it works well with my earbuds, fading both stereo sides out at an equal rate. Hopefully this will make fro some good transitions!
Loving the PADS man! So thankful for you and what you do to help build excellence into the Church!
Interesting – thanks for the info! I’m not sure what ENH stands for, but my guess is the developers set it up to work with split tracks where you typically have a click track in the left and the audio track in the right. That way the click (going to in-ear mixes) does not fade while the audio does. Totally makes sense from that standpoint.
Is there, or will there be a worship team director app for android?
BrianI have just bought all your pads also they are fantastic. I am trying to figure out how to use the click track feature in the worship tutorial app does anyone have any insight on howto set it up so that the click goes to the band and not to the house what settings are needed to be used in the app to do this is it possible to even run the click track simultaneously while running the pads?
Hi Miguel – thanks for purchasing! Are you referring to the Worship Team director app? I think you need a click track already in your files – it just gives you options about fading in/out, etc.
I loved using pads until wt director stopped working on ios9. Any alternative app suggestions so I can start using pads again? (Plus I’ll buy three ones too as I only have pads 1) please email me with suggestions!
Hi Jeremy – I’m running the latest version of iOS and WT Director seems to be working fine for me. Are you using the most updated version of the app?
Yes I am. I’m using an iPhone 6s and I think the 3D Touch feature is impacting my ability to press play within the app.
Hey, for the record, I uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Reinstalled pads and all working now. Random?
Interesting – I’ve had to do that from time to time with different apps. Glad it’s working!
Thanks for this! Just a quick question, once you’ve set up your ‘playlist’ of pads, does iPhone have to be connected to WiFi in order for the pads to work properly or can I use it in aeroplane mode?
Hi Sean,
If the files are on your device, you should not need to be connected to wifi. Thanks!
Hey Brian! Do you ever have issues importing pads onto the app? I can’t get it to import Pads 3 for the life of me.
Hey Clark – I’ve been able to get them to import in the past, but iTunes seems to be making life increasingly difficult to do something as simple as getting an mp3 on to your device. Are you trying to import them from iTunes into the app?
Can anyone help me to use these on iTunes a laptop computer? I could really use some help in this.
Hey Zach – sorry for the trouble. iTunes is getting harder and harder to use. Are you doing the Apple Music thing where it sync’s everything in the cloud? If so, when you create a playlist of Pads, you may need to force iTunes to add the songs to your iCloud music library. You can right-click on the songs in iTunes, and choose ‘Add to iCloud music library’
Hi Brian. I ran across your pads on youtube and had a question. I lead, for the most part, from a midi controller keyboard using computer based pianos, organ and strings. Is there a VST or stand alone software instrument I could get to do this for this kind of price? I have looked at a couple but I don’t need or want all the bells and whistles they include (or their price). I just simply want some pads like this that I can control from my keyboard. Any thoughts?
Hello – the Pads are not a plugin or VST – they are simply mp3 files. Depending on what software you are using, there may be some great pad type sounds built in. In my opinion, Apple Mainstage is about the best bang for the buck when it comes to VST sounds.
Can you use Worship Team Director on a MacBook?
Hi Erik – I believe the app is iOS only. I did not develop the app, so you might reach out to the developer to see if they are planning to release a desktop version for Mac.
Any Work on this app for Android??! I would love to get it, I bought all of the worship pads!
Hi Caleb – I don’t believe WT Director is available on Android. We did not develop this app, so I’m not sure if they’re planning to make one for Android or not.
Hi everyone, regarding the pads for Android, i’m using Poweramp apps and its working very good. It has nice fading …
Any update on Android App?
Hi Caleb – we did not develop the WT director app, so I’m not sure if the developer is planning an Android version or not.
Hello. I purchased the ‘PADS 5 Simple pads’. I purchased the req’d 3.5mm to 1/4′ cable and a TRS to 3.5mm cable to use with my YAMAHA
MG82CX mixer. I follow the tutorial regarding ‘download’ & using the WT Director along with my iPhone to access the iTunes where the
‘PADS 5’ reside. The PADS plays fine for a minute to minute and a half, then stops play through my mixer. A message pops up on my iPhone
that says, “This accessory is not supported by this iPhone”! What is the fix for this. I am not going to keep the ‘PADS’ and will submit a
request for refund if I cannot use them as instructed. Thank you!
JADAVIS
John, are you using it from your mixer or from the stage? If you’re using it from the stage, I would recommend using your 3.5 to 1/4 cable to plug into a direct box and use xlr the rest of the way to your mixer. If you’re running from the mixer you should be able to use the same cable to plug directly into one of your channels. We have used the direct box setup for a couple years now from both iPhones and iPads and have had no issues. If it is not a hardware issue, it may be a file issue. The mp3 files may not have downloaded to your device properly or not imported to the WT Director app correctly or something like that.
Hi John – I’m not sure what’s happening with that. Sounds like a hardware issue – shouldn’t be a software/app issue. Maybe something with the cable is causing your phone to stop playback. I would contact apple support if you keep experiencing this.
I sincerely hope my “comment” won’t have too long to wait for “moderation” as my payment for something I can’t use was immediately accepted!
Hi John – sorry for the inconvenience – I think everything is taken care of through the support system.
I didn’t see an answer to the question above, so I apologize if I missed it. Is it possible to use a bluetooth footswitch to advance to the next pad in WT Director? I also heard in the video that there another video that shows how to queue pads from planning center. Does anyone know the link for that video?
Hi William – I don’t believe you can use bluetooth with WT Director.
In Director, is there any thought on adding an editable field onto pads to identify the song name, or the purpose of the pad, i.e., transition, prayer, post message talk, end of service blessing, etc.? It would be helpful, instead of renaming pads, each time they are used.
Hello.
I’ve been using WT Director for about a year now and have loved the addition of pads underneath the band. Everything’s been working great up until this past month. I’m having issue with Dropbox syncing with the app so I can upload more pads I have purchased. It says (Dropbox.com error 400.) I’ve logged out and back in to reset it and it didn’t change. I am afraid to uninstall and reinstall WT Director bc I don’t know if I’ll lose all my pad files in doing so. Any tips or suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks!
Hey Josh – WT Director just got an update today and the Dropbox functionality is working again now.
Hi, love your product, except I haven’t figured out how to clear songs from storage without deleting the app and reinstalling. Not a big deal, but unfortunately I did it today and now it won’t let me import from itunes. When I click on it, it flashes and disappears. Will try a dropbox workaround. Thanks.
Having same problem. I’m going the DropBox route too.
WT Director recently pushed out an update and I’ve been able to successfully get both the iTunes and Dropbox import functionality to work.
Hi Greg – sorry for the trouble with WT Director. Since we didn’t develop the app, I can’t offer a lot of support on it, but I was able to successfully import a song from iTunes. I would recommend making sure both iOS and the WT Director app are updated (they just pushed out an update). You also have to make sure the files are physically on your device (rather than in the cloud if you use iCloud) – otherwise they won’t import.
Every time I go to import songs from Itunes, a blank white screen pops up for a second and then just goes back to the main menu. HELP!! I need to get this working. This app has worked for me for the last 2 years and need it tomorrow!
Hi Jake – sorry for the trouble with importing. Others have run into this issue as well, and I haven’t found a fix for it. You could try downloading the ‘Small Group Director’ app – it’s basically the same app (made by the same developer), and some have had luck with it when WT director won’t work.
Hey Ya’ll, still having a problem with iTunes import, nothing seems to help. Their website is “upgrading” and has been for a few days now. Wonder if they are giving up on it…
Hi Aaron,
Sorry for the trouble with WT Director. It seems it is no longer being actively developed. Some people have had success with the “Small Group Director” app – it’s basically the same thing. Worth a shot.
This app seems fantastic! However I cannot seem to exit the app and allow the pads to continue playing. This is necessary because I use the same iPad for both the atmosphere pads and to view lyrics/chords using the Music Stand app from Planning Center. Any suggestions?
Hi Kyle – you might look into using OnSong. It’s a bit of an investment up front (I think it’s $25 or so), but you can play back audio like Pads and have charts available from the same app.
So, I had WT Director on my iPhone 6. I just got the iPhone X and the WT Director was on my phone with all the pads I owe, but it wouldn’t play. So, I took it off my phone, hoping to redownload it and it says that it’s not available in the US. I’ve tried going directly to the app store and from your website. Can you please help ASAP? I’m leading in the morning and have no pad.
Hi Jamie – the WT Director app isn’t available anymore. I recommend the Soundboard Studio Lite app – I’ve updated this post with info on how to use that one.
Hi Brian, WT Director is no longer available in the US according to my iTunes. Do you have another recommended app for playback with crossfades?
Hi Bob – the WT Director app isn’t available anymore. I recommend the Soundboard Studio Lite app – I’ve updated this post with info on how to use that one.
Hey there,
I’ve been using this app for a few years now and I love it! But when others try and download it it doesn’t exist in the app store. I also can’t find anything called “Small grow Director” at all. The app works great for me, and I’m not asking for any sort of update, just for it to be available so my other worship leaders can download it. I haven’t been able to find anything like this for free on the market. Thank you.
Thanks Darrick – the WT Director and Small Group Director apps aren’t available anymore. I recommend the Soundboard Studio Lite app – I’ve updated this post with info on how to use that one.
Worship team director isn’t found in the App Store for some reason. Maybe I’ll wait a few days and try again.
Hi Jorge – the WT Director app isn’t available anymore. I recommend the Soundboard Studio Lite app – I’ve updated this post with info on how to use that one.
WT Director seems to be gone. I can’t find another music player that allows me to skip between tracks on a playlist with crossfade. Lots of apps offer crossfade, but only when it is finishing one track and going to the next, not when manually skipping to the next track like WT Director. Please help!
Hi Bob – the WT Director app isn’t available anymore. I recommend the Soundboard Studio Lite app – I’ve updated this post with info on how to use that one.
Can’t download the app!?
Hi Eric – the WT Director app isn’t available anymore. I recommend the Soundboard Studio Lite app – I’ve updated this post with info on how to use that one.
Yes, please help. What happened to the app?
Hi Zach – the WT Director app isn’t available anymore. I recommend the Soundboard Studio Lite app – I’ve updated this post with info on how to use that one.
Looking for alternative apple and android apps to WT Director…if anyone finds one, please share
Hi Ken – I recommend the Soundboard Studio Lite app – I’ve updated this post with info on how to use that one.

Hi Brian,
SoundBoard Studio Lite is not available for andriod.
Any recommendations for playback with cross fade on andriod ?
Thanks
