Sunday, December 4, 2016. Newhope Church, Durham Campus.
We start doing Christmas stuff (music, set design, etc) in December in our church, and many of you have asked questions specifically about song selection, etc. Here are a few pointers.
How many Christmas songs we do per weekend
We usually schedule at least 2 Christmas songs every service in December, and as we get closer to Christmas Eve, we’ll do more. We don’t typically do all Christmas songs, though – usually there are regular worship songs in the mix as well.
What if I don’t like Christmas songs?
If you don’t like Christmas songs, you’re not alone. I actually don’t really like a lot of them either, but here’s the truth: it doesn’t matter – it’s not about you (or what you like). Christmas is such an important time in the church – it’s usually our best opportunity to reach people who are hesitant to attend church. Both people familiar and unfamiliar with church mostly know and enjoy singing Christmas songs.
I believe we as worship leaders should also be communicating with our pastors and making sure that what we are scheduling lines up with the vision of what the Pastor has for Christmas services.
