Description
JOHN MAYER – ARTIST PATCH
These presets are designed to replicate John Mayer’s tone. We’ll say it up front: it is nearly impossible to replicate Mayer’s rigs and guitar tones into a single preset (or into multiple presets, even). Over Mayer’s long career, the he has created an enormous amount of tones and textures, and he is well known for using lots of different amps, pedals, and guitars, many of which are extremely rare and sought after.
Furthermore, much of Mayer’s signature tone is his playing, feel, and dynamics. Only John Mayer will sound just like John Mayer, which is important to remember when using these presets. We have done our very best to replicate some of our favorite Mayer tones, but to truly sound like John, you’ll need to play like John, too.
TONE MATCH (Gen 2) PATCHES (Applies to Line 6 and Fractal presets only)
These are part of our ‘Tone Match’ line of patches. To create these patches, we make custom IR’s that ‘match’ the HX and Fractal amp models to our real-world amp. The result is the Line 6 and Fractal units sound almost exactly like our actual amplifiers.
The ‘Gen2’ indicates a new process we’ve used when Tone Matching our amplifiers that takes more of the amplifier’s cab and speaker into account, resulting in a more accurate tone match impulse response.
Line 6 Patches available for Helix (floor, LT, and Native) and HX Stomp
This download includes patches for Helix and HX Stomp. Please make sure to import the appropriate patch for your hardware – they are not interchangeable.
- HELIX: There is a single preset for Helix that includes all the song snaps and stomps
- HX STOMP: For HX Stomp we have delivered three different presets that cover the different sounds found in the full Helix version. We’ve used Snapshots in HX Stomp to replicate the songs.
SNAPSHOT/STOMP MODES
We’ve used the Snapshot feature in Helix and HX Stomp to replicate some of our favorite song-specific sounds, and we’ve used the Stomp mode to re-create a pedalboard layout with various pedal emulations that Mayer is famous for using.
USAGE TIPS
Helix and Stomp patches are designed to be used in either Snapshot or Stomp modes – you can configure your footswitches to utilize either modes to suite your playing style.
STEREO:
Our patches are designed to be used in stereo, but can also be used in mono with no issues. If you are able to run stereo, the reverbs and delays (and the amps in dual amp stereo patches) will sound huge. If you need to run mono, simply use only the Left output of your hardware and the patches will automatically be summed to mono.
EXPERIMENT
We design our patches for maximum usability across a wide range of styles and gear. We also realize that every player and every setup is different. Feel free to experiment with different effects and settings within the patches. We recommend copying the patch into a new slot before experimenting. This way you can always revert to the original if you’d like.
Fractal Presets available for Axe-FX III and FM9
For both Axe-FX III and FM9, we’ve delivered a single press that is designed to replicate popular songs in Scene mode, and a pedalboard in the ‘FX’ layout – more info on that below.
SCENES/FX LAYOUTS
We’ve used the layouts feature in the Fractal hardware to give you access to a pedalboard type layout, and to replicate some of our favorite song-specific sounds, and we’ve used the Stomp mode to re-create a pedalboard layout with various pedal emulations that Mayer is famous for using.
For Axe-FX III, we’ve utilized layouts 7 and 8, and for FM9, we’ve utilized layouts 6, 7, and 8.
USAGE NOTES
STEREO
These presets are designed to be used in stereo. If you are running mono, you’ll need to sum your signal to mono before going to FOH.
The easiest way to make this adjustment is in the ‘Setup’ menu:
- Choose ‘Setup’, and select ‘I/O’
- In OUTPUT 1 CONFIGURATION (choose the physical output you are using), change the ‘Mode’. Select ‘STEREO’ if you are running in stereo. Select ‘’SUM L+R’ if you are running mono. This will convert your output to mono and sum the stereo image. This will also cause all your presets to output in mono, as it is a global setting.

Feel free to experiment with different effects and settings within the patches. We recommend copying the patch into a new slot before experimenting. ALL-IN-ONE PRESET
This preset features captures of a Two Rock Traditional Clean (the precursor to the Two Rock John Mayer signature), as well as captures of several drives that Mayer is known to use. The effects are dialed in to replicate popular song sounds as well as give you a pedalboard layout using the different modes.
NOTE: This package includes all the captures in the presets themselves, but does not include additional amp captures. Those are available in the 2RC TC product package.
HOW DO YOU GET THE PRESETS?
When you place your order, we will need to manually send you the captures through the ‘Cortex Cloud’ app by Neural DSP, available for both iOS and Android devices. First, you need to have the app installed and you must have an account through the app (go here to create an account and access the app).
This is how we will send you the captures:

- Follow ‘WorshipTutorials’ on the Cortex Cloud app. This will make us ‘friends’ through the app :). If you are not following us, we cannot send you the captures.
- After we receive your order, and we ‘Friends’ on the app, we will send you the captures through the app. We bundle the captures into presets, so you will receive one (or more) presets that include all the captures. You will find the captures in the ‘Shared with me’ section on your Quad Cortex.
- Please allow up to 5 business days for us to send you the captures. Most orders will be fulfilled within two business days or less. This fulfillment process must happen manually – we will do our best to get you the files quickly. Once the NDSP marketplace opens, this process may change.
