Description
TONE MATCH Gen2 PATCHES, CAPTURES, AND PROFILES OF A BAD CAT BLACK CAT
For these patches, we’ve captured a Bad Cat Black Cat. The result is a set of presets and captures that sound exactly like our amp, and the microphones, preamps, and EQ chains that we use to record it.
The Black Cat is a modern Bad Cat two channel amplifier that goes from beautiful chimey Vox-inspired cleans on channel one to huge Marshall Plexi-type crunch tones on channel two. Both channels sound exceptionally good, and they compliment one another perfectly.
We’ve captured and tone-matched the amp through it’s matching 1×12 cab loaded with a custom Bad Cat 65w speaker using a Royer 121 and Earthworks SR25 through a stereo Neve 1073 preamp.
TONE MATCH (Gen 2) PATCHES (Applies to Line 6 and Fractal presets)
These are part of our ‘Tone Match’ line of patches. To create these patches, we make custom IR’s that ‘match’ the HX and Fractal amp models to our real-world amp. The result is the Line 6 and Fractal units sound almost exactly like our actual amplifiers.
The ‘Gen2’ indicates a new process we’ve used when Tone Matching our amplifiers that takes more of the amplifier’s cab and speaker into account, resulting in a more accurate tone match impulse response.

PRESETS
This download includes presets for Helix, HX Stomp, and POD Go. Please make sure to import the appropriate patch for your hardware – they are not interchangeable.
- BadKat Blck A/B S – Meant for guitars with single coils.
- BadKat Blck A/B H – This patch uses the user cabs and is meant for guitars with humbuckers.
- NOTE: The HX Stomp and POD Go folders include ‘FX” patches. These patches include the additional effects blocks from the full Helix patch.
A PRESETS: The ‘A’ presets feature only channel one (the clean channel) of the amp in a stereo configuration. All the wet effects run into the stereo instances of the amp blocks. Think of it like running a large stereo pedalboard into two Royalist amplifiers set clean.
B PRESETS: The ‘B’ presets allow to you channel switch the amp. To do this, we’ve set up two amp blocks based on channel one and two of the amp, and we’ve given you a foot switch that allows you to switch between the amp blocks. This lets you go from a clean tone to an aggressive rhythm tone, all through the amp blocks. In the ‘B’ presets, the modulation, delay, and reverb effects are placed after the amplifier blocks.
NOTE: For POD Go, we’ve delivered two sets of presets – one based on channel one of the amp (labeled ‘1’), and one based on channel 2 (labeled ‘2’). This is because POD Go does not allow for two amp blocks in a single preset.

The HX Stomp and POD Go patches cannot fit all the effects into a single patch. For those platforms, we include the amp and essential effects in the main patches, and then we include the additional effects blocks in the ‘FX’ patches. Feel free to mix and match the additional ‘FX’ blocks into the main patches to suite your needs.

TONEX AMP CAPTURE PRESETS – Compatible with the Tonex/Amplitube Software and the TONEX pedals
The tone model captures increase through the entire gain range of the amp for all both channels.
The Tone Model presets are numbered, and the number corresponds to the level of gain in the tone model. Lower numbers equal lower gain, and higher numbers equal higher gain. Typically a ‘2’ or ‘3’ is the ‘edge of breakup’, and is the perfect option to use with pedals.
QUAD CORTEX CAPTURES
For Quad Cortex, we have captured the amp through its entire gain range of the amp for both channels
The captures are numbered, and the number corresponds to the level of gain in the tone model. Lower numbers equal lower gain, and higher numbers equal higher gain. Typically a ‘2’ or ‘3’ is the ‘edge of breakup’, and is the perfect option to use with pedals.
ALL-IN-ONE PRESETS
- BadKat Black A – This preset template places all the wet FX in front of the stereo amp blocks (channel 1)
- BadKat Black B – This preset template places all the wet FX after the stereo amp blocks, and uses two amp blocks to simulated switching between channel 1 and channel 2
Also included are two gig-ready (Sunday morning ready, to be more precise) all in one presets utilizing captures of these amps as well as some of our drive pedals. We’ve included different presets to let you experiment with signal chain – wet effects in front of amps or after amps. You can use these presets in both Scene and Stomp mode, and they cover a ton of sonic territory. Simply copy and paste the amp blocks from the channel you’d like to use into each preset.
HOW DO YOU GET THE CAPTURES?
When you place your order, we will need to manually send you the captures through the ‘Cortex Cloud’ app by Neural DSP, available for both iOS and Android devices. First, you need to have the app installed and you must have an account through the app (go here to create an account and access the app).
This is how we will send you the captures:
- Please include your Cortex Cloud app username in the ‘Notes’ field when checking out. If you do not include this, we cannot send you the captures. After we receive your order, we (WorshipTutorials) will follow you on the app.
- Follow ‘WorshipTutorials’ on the Cortex Cloud app. This will make us ‘friends’ through the app :). If you are not following us, we cannot send you the captures.
- After we receive your order, and we ‘Friends’ on the app, we will send you the captures through the app. We bundle the captures into presets, so you will receive one (or more) presets that include all the captures. You will find the captures in the ‘Shared with me’ section on your Quad Cortex.
- Please allow up to 5 business days for us to send you the captures. Most orders will be fulfilled within two business days or less. This fulfillment process must happen manually – we will do our best to get you the files quickly. Once the NDSP marketplace opens, this process may change.

For that platform, we include the amp and essential effects in the main presets, and then we include the additional effects blocks in the ‘FX’ preset. Feel free to mix and match the additional ‘FX’ blocks into the main patches to suite your needs.
BLOCK CHANNELS
For each effect block, we set up all four channels to give you as many options as possible for each individual effect types. For example, in the Compressor block, there are four different types of compression. For drives, we use all available channels in each drive block to get different overdrive flavors. Please experiment with the channels in all the different blocks to find your favorites. Typically we use our favorites in Channel A.
The exceptions to this are usually the amp and cab blocks – for those we usually only set up Channel A.
